2009
2009 never went really how I hoped. At one point it seemed worse than any nightmare, then it got better than I could have dreamed. It's a year that will stand out for me. Even the most frightening negative can lead to fantastic positives.
One word shook me to my core, 'incurable'. Later I found out I've a really good chance to get out and live. MS is strange it's not the same for everyone. It could turn into a real nightmare, but there is nothing to be gained by thinking about that. I've done the bit, scaring myself with what I found on the net. There is also all the miracle cures etc. I could spend a fortune for nothing. The simple fact is the best thing to do is try to stay fit and healthy and not let what might happen get me down. I'm lucky and it would be great if it stays that way.
I guess the vast majority of people will never understand how I enjoy myself. It's documented on this blog and the only explanation I can give is, that's me. It's probably very mundane and boring. Wandering round different places, shopping and drinking lots of coffee.
The real highlights of the year have been seeing my friends in Manchester and Newcastle. and another friend finally achieving her goal. For everyone I hope 2010 is a fantastic year.
I will make no resolutions. There are places I want to go and people I would love to meet. I did have plans for 2009, but they got waylaid.
I have a lot clearer view of what I want to do and also what I can't do. Things don't quite seem to ever work out as planned, but it can be even better if you react positively to the unexpected. It doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot.
One thing I developed in the last few months is a love of flowers. I think it stems from when my eye went bad.
When it started healing, looking at plants and their flowers was a good way to see if my colour vision was improving and if I could distinguish different shades.
The picture below of Canal Street in Manchester is a representation of how bad the sight in one eye got:-
The eye is much better now, for which I am very thankful. I guess now I've got new things to draw, which is hopefully all that will end up on the Limbo blog. It would be great if the MS fades into the background, but what will be will be.
Things I've heard or have been said to me include:-
"You look like my mother."
" You look like my granny"
"Do you just like dressing up,"
"I'm bisexual when I have cocaine, do you want some?" Needless to say I politely declined..
"Look there's another, I told you we would see another one.."
"You've been spotted.." The security in a well known department store when I was trying to find a shop assistant.
That's a few I can remember, but on the whole I've found people to be ok and the majority I spoke to very nice. The one sad thing I've noticed is drugs being dealt more openly in the Village in Manchester.
One thing that gave me a bit of hope was when I was on a train from Blackpool with a load of students returning home from a conference and my gender identity wasn't even asked about when we were talking. I found that a few times during the year and it wasn't because I pass as a female. There are some people who just don't see it as an issue and treat you as another human being.
I hope I can continue on with what I've enjoyed this past year into 2010.
One last picture I guess sums up what I seemed to do a lot of in 2009,
It's certainly been a lot of fun and hopefully I'll get out a lot more.
To finish the link below is a song by Eric Johnson that I listen to a lot. I've posted it before, but it's well worth putting up again.

YouTube - Santana Marathon - All I Ever Wanted (Live)
Thought I'd finish this year on this blog with an upbeat song from Santana.
It's been a strange year, I guess I won't forget 2009 in a hurry. I know it's a bit early to be going on about another year over, but to be honest I would just like to get this holiday season over. If I remember rightly and got the dates right, the shortest day of the year has passed. The days now will start to get longer and we head towards summer. I always think that is worth celebrating.
Next year all I hope for is stability, I did once look forward and hope the new year would be a better one than the last. Now as I've said before it's just day to day. Perhaps next year will be better, but then again this year hasn't been to bad. I've had some wonderful unforgetable moments for which I am very thankful.
For anyone who reads this I hope you have a Happy Christmas and the New Year is at the very least kind to you.
Take care and look after yourselves.
Karen xx
Edit:-
I've kind of being trying to see what I'm still capable of. I know I'm a lot weaker than I was a few years ago and since the MS I've been sort of testing myself. A bit silly I know.
I had to do a bit of a heavy lift job and decided not to ask for any help and completed it myself. I took a bit longer and I did feel a bit dizzy at one point.
I feel good and no ill effects and I have no idea why I've posted this here.
