I've just attended today Manchester's Transgender Day of Remembrance for all the transgender people who have died as a result of violence. It was all the more poignant as Andrea Waddell's brother said a few words about his sister who was murdered a few weeks ago in Brighton. Hundreds of names were read out at the Beacon of Hope in Sackville Gardens. Similar events have taken place round the world in the last few days.
We stood in the wind and listened and held a minutes silence contemplating the sheer madness and asking why? To be murdered just because you are transgendered.
Afterwards I spoke to Andrea's brother and I could see the pain and haunted look. He told me about his sister. She sounded a wonderful lady. I really hope something good comes out of this tragedy. At least for her family's sake.
I will never forget today and I truly hope things change for the better. A few days ago on another website I saw a plea,
STOP KILLING US!!!!!!!
